A home host is a person with a big heart who is willing to offer up a couch, a bed, or a room for a week or more to a trans person in our community experiencing homelessness.
While we provide peer to peer counseling, offer resources, and help our clients get the assistance they need to get back on their feet, our home hosts make sure they have a roof over their head during this process.
Many shelters often deny entry or fail to provide appropriate services based on their gender identity, making those services dangerous or inaccessible.
How can I help?
You do not need a specific skill set other than passion for our cause. TAPVA volunteers share the passion of helping homeless transgender, gender non conforming, and non binary people help themselves to get back on their feet.
You can donate any amount of time and energy in any way that you can.
Our wonderful volunteers help to provide transportation for our clients to appointments, provide an empathetic ear for our clients, represent us at events, and much, much more.
On average, we receive four requests for assistance each month and have assisted over 150 individuals since 2015, but none of this is possible without the compassion and generosity of all of our volunteers.
