Join us for a day of food, fun, and community as we celebrate the living legacy of our dear friend, Shelby Lexus Walker.
Hosted by Southeastern Transgender Resource Center in partnership with LGBT Life Center, Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia, Thriving Transmen of Color and Calos Coalition.
The community cookout from 11 AM to 5 PM will include :
~ A walk honoring Shelby Lexus Walker
~ Legal clinic - Courtesy of Lawren Burroughs
~ Food - We are grilling hamburgers and hotdogs
~ Hourly raffles and prizes with a trans fantastical prize drawing at 4:30 PM donated by Calos Coalition

TDOV continues with a Mini Ball based on trans colors. Doors open at 9 PM. Competition starts at 10 PM with cash prizes awarded.

Transgender Day of Remembrance 2022 commemorated the trans people who have died by violence and helped us remember how brave it is to live our authentic lives. This year, the event was held in-person at New Life MCC, 1000 Sunset Drive, Norfolk, Virginia with over 80 attending. The virtual/live-stream option had over 200 views. The LGBT Life Center, the Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia, the Southeastern Transgender Resource Center, and New Life MCC are organizing a day of centering, celebrating, and uplifting the transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities of Hampton Roads:

TAP VA is working with Equality Virginia to make sure everyone has access to the information and resources available at our statewide TIES (Transgender Information and Empowerment Summit), no matter where you live in Virginia. In the summer of 2019, we will bring TIES Pop-Ups to three locations across the state: Norfolk, Fairfax and Staunton.
These events are much smaller versions of our statewide conference, but will still include:
–trans-affirming mental health & medical consultations
–name & gender marker change clinic
–employment readiness training
–how-to-tell-your-story advocacy workshop
–community organizations & resources

Every October, transgender and gender diverse folks are joined by friends, family, and allies for TIES (Transgender Information and Empowerment Summit). Last year, we welcomed more than 250 individuals identifying as trans or gender diverse who participated in the day’s programs alongside over 100 allies.

The most important aspect of the TIES is community. To us, community means trust, solidarity, and a shared respect for people who are transgender and gender diverse. The summit is an opportunity to build that community – to learn from and with each other in a safe, welcoming, and empowering space.
